A Biographical Drama Movie: The Pursuit of Happiness
Summary of The Pursuit of Happiness
The Pursuit of Happiness is one of the most educational movies directed by Gabriele Muccino. The movie revolves around the Gardner family’s life in San Francisco in 1981. The Gardner family lived in a small apartment. Chris Gardner, one of the movie’s main characters, spent all his money on buying a franchise to sell bone scanners. However, all the doctors with whom Chris met told him it was too expensive. In the movie, Chris’s wife Linda moved to New York City, leaving Chris and their son Christopher behind, and Chris had to work hard to live with Christopher. One day, Chris met a man in front of a building with a luxury Ferrari. From that moment, Chris decided to become a stockbroker. Chris and his son found it difficult to subsist after being forced to leave their home, so they began to live in a church with other people. Their lives were full of irony. However, at the end of the story, Chris succeeded in being a member of staff at a Dean writer’s firm.

What I Liked about The Pursuit of Happiness
My favorite part of the story is when Chris was not wearing formal attire for his interview. He was dressed like a painter because the night before his interview, Chris was painting his house because he was not on good terms with the landlord. At that moment, suddenly, the police knocked on his door and arrested him for not paying for numerous parking tickets. However, he was released the following day, for which he had to rush to the office to attend the interview. One of the interviewers asked him, "What would you say if a man walked into here with no shirt and I hired him?" Chris replied that he must have worn nice pants on such an important day.
What I Disliked about The Pursuit of Happiness
I think the most disliked part of the movie The Pursuit of Happiness is when Linda leaves her husband and son for her interests. As a fiercely independent and selfish woman, Linda was constantly at odds with Chris Gardner, the film’s main protagonist. Throughout the movie, she constantly puts her desires ahead of her family, leaving them to fend for themselves repeatedly. Viewers did not appreciate this unsympathetic portrayal of a woman and found her character to be deeply distasteful. Overall, Linda remains one of the most disliked parts of The Pursuit of Happiness for her insufferable ego and relentless hedonism.
Be Inspired by The Pursuit of Happiness
I think The Pursuit of Happiness is among the most inspiring movies for young people today. The movie promotes a vital message that we should always strive towards our goals in life, even when things get tough and we face obstacles. This can be achieved through discipline, perseverance, courage, and self-control. The film also features a touching father-son relationship that can serve as a role model for young viewers. In my opinion, everyone should watch The Pursuit of Happiness multiple times throughout their lives, as it truly is a timeless classic with something valuable to offer everyone.
