Save a Mother, Save a Life: A Beacon of Hope

Save a Mother, Save a Life - A humanitarian platform

Founded by Irfanul Hoque on April 19th, 2021, “Save a Mother, Save a Life” is a humanitarian platform in Bangladesh with a strong focus on creating a significant social impact. The primary mission of the platform is to extend financial aid and support to courageous mothers who valiantly battle against cancer. Furthermore, to help those who have been negatively affected by COVID-19, the platform has expanded its support to aid individuals who are struggling after losing their employment. To date, Irfanul has successfully executed two projects with his platform and has received a lot of support from both inside and outside the country, all of which contribute to raising much-needed funds for those in need.

The first project of Save a Mother, Save a Life

Sidratul Mursalin Bhasha found himself in a dire situation when his mother was diagnosed with blood cancer. Seeking better treatment, the family traveled to India on March 18th, 2021. Tragically, during their stay, Bhasha’s father, Mr. Nazrul Islam Bakshi, a senior journalist, contracted COVID-19 and passed away on April 18th, 2021, after an 18-day struggle. Due to the restrictions of the pandemic, his father was buried in India while his wife continued her treatment at Christian Medical Hospital.

At this critical juncture, Bhasha’s mother required several costly chemotherapies, amounting to about 13 lakh taka. The treatment extended over six months, creating an immense financial burden for Bhasha, who was still a student and unable to manage the expenses himself.

In this dire situation, Irfanul, who was Bhasha’s schoolmate, took the initiative to support his friend’s mother’s treatment. Alongside 14 former and current students of BIAM Laboratory School & College, Cox’s Bazar, Irfanul established a humanitarian platform with a noble purpose: to save Bhasha’s mother’s life. Driven by the intention to save her life, Irfanul initiated an online campaign on Facebook with the motto “Save a mother’s life and become a hero.” Additionally, he reached out to influential figures in the community, seeking their contributions to the cause.

With unwavering determination and the grace of Allah, Irfanul and his team managed to collect 10 lakh taka in a week. On April 29th, 2021, they held a press conference at Cox’s Bazar Press Club, where Irfanul presented the funds to the family members of Bhasha, represented by Shahid Ullah, a field and logistics leader coordinator from the Italian NGO, MOAS. Many notable individuals were present at the conference, lending their support to the cause.

With the funds in hand, Bhasha’s mother began her treatment promptly and is now on the path to recovery. This heartwarming display of compassion and solidarity exemplifies the true spirit of humanity and the strength of a community coming together to make a difference in someone’s life.

The second project of Save a Mother, Save a Life

Amid the far-reaching impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global economy, Bangladesh, like many other countries, has experienced significant challenges, with numerous individuals losing their jobs and struggling to sustain their livelihoods. Among those affected are the dedicated staff members of BIAM Laboratory School & College, Cox’s Bazar, who have endured a year without receiving their well-deserved honorarium.

In response to this distressing situation, Irfanul’s humanitarian platform took on its 2nd project to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the deserving staff. With the intention of spreading joy and happiness during Eid-ul-Fitr, the platform allocated a generous sum of sixty thousand BDT from its funds to support the staff. This kind gesture aimed to increase the festive spirit and provide some relief to the staff, who had been enduring some financial uncertainty.

By extending this financial assistance to the deserving staff, Irfanul and his platform exemplified the spirit of compassion and solidarity in times of crisis. Their thoughtful initiative not only brought smiles to the faces of those staff members during the festive occasion but also reaffirmed the platform’s commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of individuals facing adversity.

Irfanul’s humanitarian platform has garnered overwhelming encouragement and support from people across the globe. As a guiding figure, Shahid Ullah not only provided invaluable mentorship but also took the initiative to raise a significant amount of money independently for Bhasha’s mother’s medical treatment. Leveraging his extensive connections both in Bangladesh and abroad, Shahid Ullah played a crucial role in contributing to a healthy fund for the noble cause.

The platform’s strength was further bolstered by the active involvement of Shahid Ullah’s daughter, Shegufta, and her husband, Bass King Pavel, who demonstrated unwavering dedication to the cause. The support extended to the platform by numerous renowned figures from Bangladesh’s entertainment scene, including singers and actors like Fuad Al-Muqtadir, Habib Wahid, Elita Karim, Raef Al Hasan Rafa, Iqbal Asif Jewel, Black Zang, and Jalali Shafayet, along with some more, provided a significant boost to the efforts they were making.

Seeking to expand their impact, Irfanul and his team reached out to influential YouTubers, artists, and bloggers from Bangladesh, successfully securing their support and solidarity. Personalities such as Jaya Ahsan, Sabila Noor, Shamim Hasan Sarkar, Tasnia Farin, Rafsan the Chotobhai, Ridy Sheikh, Shoumik Ahmed, Zakilove, and many more joined in endorsing the platform’s noble cause. The platform’s reach extended beyond borders, as Irfanul even managed to capture the attention of Carry Minati, India’s most famous YouTuber, who wholeheartedly showed his support by sharing Irfan’s post on his Instagram account.

The unity and determination displayed by Irfanul's platform, along with the support from a diverse and influential network of individuals, exemplify the power of compassion and collaboration in making a real difference in the lives of those in need. Their relentless efforts and the outpouring of support from both near and far have undoubtedly left a profound impact, underscoring the strength of humanity coming together for a noble cause.
